YELLOWKNIFE: The Union of Northern Workers (UNW) is contributing $30,000 to the United Way NWT Emergency Response Fund to support evacuees from Kátł’odeeche First Nation and Hay River. We are also pleased to announce that the Public Service Alliance of Canada Social Justice Fund has committed to matching this donation, for a total of $60,000.
United Way NWT is a longstanding charitable partner of the UNW, who administers funds to qualifying local organizations to ensure residents affected by the Kátł’odeeche First Nation/Hay River Wildfire will get the aid they need.
This is the third year in a row that NWT residents have been forced from their homes due to natural disasters, and the UNW is once again ready and willing to do what we can to provide financial support to those in need right now.
We also want to acknowledge the tireless work of our members, who are involved in all aspects of the emergency response and are often in dangerous situations. We see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you for your dedication to keeping your fellow residents safe and supported through these difficult and emotional times. Our hearts go out to all the displaced and worried residents.
