Condolences for Firefighter in Fort Liard

Jul 17, 2023

The Union of Northern Workers sends our deepest condolences to the community of Fort Liard and the Acho Dene Koe First Nation as our union mourns the loss of one of our Local 13 members who lost their life over the weekend fighting a wildfire near the community.

Our hearts go out to the member’s family, friends, and coworkers in Fort Liard and across the Dehcho Region.

Wildfire fighter crews work closely together in high-risk conditions, and the impact of this loss is felt deeply amongst our membership during one of our most challenging wildfire seasons on record.

Each and every one of our members is committed to ensuring that their fellow firefighters work safely while protecting our communities. Unfortunately, this tragedy is a reminder to us all how dangerous this work can be.

As a union, we are committed to health and safety and will participate fully with the WSCC throughout their investigation.

As fellow workers, we mourn this loss.
