On behalf of our members, the Union of Northern Workers sends our deepest condolences to the community of Fort Smith, and the workers at Diavik and Northwestern Air. Our hearts and minds are with everyone who has lost family, friends, and coworkers in this terrible tragedy.
Here in the North we are all connected in some way or another, and most of us know someone who works in mining or aviation. The relationships built within these industries are like second families for many, and the pain of this loss will be felt across the NWT and beyond.
We would also like to acknowledge the first responders and healthcare workers providing care and assistance under incredibly difficult circumstances. You are not alone, please reach out if you need help.
