RE: Special Leave Provisions

Members of Local 21,

We see you! We know you are and have been working hard on behalf of the clients and fellow staff of HRHSSA. And we thank you for the care you gave our friends and family. We are proud of your effort in these last days of extreme stress and anxiety for yourselves and your community.

We want to bring to your attention the following articles in our current collective agreement as they apply to ALL of you.

Under Special Leave 19.02(2) (c);

The Employer may grant an employee special leave earned with pay for a period of up to five (5) consecutive working days:

(c) where special circumstances not directly attributable to the employee prevent the employee from reporting to duty, including, but not limited to

(i) serious household or domestic emergencies; 19.03 t9.04 19.05 19.06 23

(ii) a transportation tie-up caused by weather if the employee makes every reasonable effort to report for duty;

(iii) serious community emergencies, where the employee is required to render assistance:

Also be mindful of 19.03;

Special leave in excess of five (5) consecutive work days for the purposes enumerated in Article 19.02 may only be granted with the Employer's approval. Such approval shall not be reasonably denied.

And 19.05;

Where an employee has insufficient credits to permit the granting of special leave within the meaning of this Article, leave up to a maximum of five (5) days may, at the discretion of the Employer, be granted subject to the deduction of such advanced leave from any special leave credits subsequently earned.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding leave or how your circumstances are affected by HRHSSA actions, please do not hesitate to call or contact UNW HQ or myself:
