UNW 2025 Shop Steward Conference Call Out
The UNW’s annual Shop Steward Conference returns this September with a goal of preparing our shop stewards to function in their locals at a high level of representation. Some of this involves informing their fellow members of their rights and responsibilities under their collective agreement, helping resolve problems, handling grievances, attending employer-initiated meeting with fellow members, and educating members about the policies of their union – just to name a few.
Being a steward is a challenging and rewarding way to make a meaningful contribution to the health of your workplace and the lives of your co-workers. It is a critical aspect of the strength of the union in the workplace and we want to provide you with the training you need to feel confident, and an opportunity to network with fellow members.
We invite you to join us for 2 days of workshops, discussion, and collaboration on September 18-19 in Yellowknife.

September 18-19, 2025 (Thursday-Friday)
NOTE: Additional union training may be offered the week of the conference – UNW will provide more information as it becomes available, so keep an eye on your email and the UNW website for updates!
LOCATION
UNW Training Rooms, Main floor – 4910 53rd Street, Yellowknife
ELIGIBILITY
This conference is open to appointed Shop Stewards and Chief Shop Stewards of UNW who have completed one or more of the following courses:
- UNW Shop Steward Course
- PSAC Talking Union Basics
Applicants must be nominated at a Local General Membership Meeting
Stewards are required to have two (2) Local Executive Officers sign off on the application
Each Local is allowed to send two (2) Stewards, but are encouraged to select alternates
Priority will be given to stewards who have not attended previous conferences
