Due to uncertainty around the pandemic and restrictions on group gatherings and meetings, the PSAC National Board of Directors have passed resolutions officially postponing the PSAC National Convention and the PSAC Regional Conventions by one year, and suspending Convention and AGM deadlines until Sept 2020.

    As a proactive measure to reduce any risk to the health and safety of our members and staff, as of 5:00pm today the UNW offices in Hay River, Inuvik, and Yellowknife will be closed until further notice.

    Working from home, our staff will continue to provide service to members using all available technologies. We thank members in advance for their patience and understanding during this time.

    Members are advised to continue to monitor the UNW website, email, and the UNW Facebook Group for updates on affected union activities. Contact your Local President for updates regarding Local activities.

    Effective immediately, all Local meetings and union gatherings are suspended until further notice.

    Where possible, any necessary union business will be conducted using available technologies (phone, email, teleconferencing, etc).

    Members are strongly advised to regularly monitor this website, email, and the UNW Facebook Group for updates on affected union activities.

    While our offices are currently still open, this situation may change at any time, pursuant to any recommendations from the NWT Chief Public Health Officer.

    The GNWT has been communicating with the UNW regarding workplace and employee plans, and the parties are meeting weekly to discuss updates, with additional meetings as required.

    Regional Vice Presidents are working with Local Executives to ensure that all precautions are taken with respect to upcoming Local meetings, and are developing plans to address situations where members may be limited in their ability to participate in union activity due to COVID-19 restrictions.

    Lastly, the UNW has temporarily suspended non-essential duty travel for our employees, to limit exposure and be proactive in exercising responsible caution.
