Celebrating International Women's Day

Mar 08, 2022

Bargaining is one of labour’s strongest opportunities to challenge inequality and create lasting change in our workplaces that promote equity and benefit all workers.

International Women’s Day is an important opportunity to mark the ground-breaking advances women have made in pay equity; sexual harassment protection; paid maternity and parental leave; 2SLGBTQIPA+ benefits; domestic violence leave and more!

Even with these important gains, 1.5 million women continue to live in poverty in Canada, gender-based violence has increased in recent years, and women’s representation in the workforce has suffered immensely as women continue to be the primary caregivers at home. The negative impacts increase exponentially when identities such as BIPOC, people with different abilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQIPA+ community intersect. To truly achieve gender justice, we have lots left to change.

By strengthening collective agreements at the bargaining table, we can continue the essential work of eliminating inequities and getting more women where they belong, at the table.

Women Lifting Women Up

Our partners and members with the PSAC North NT Regional Women's Committee have launched a contest to acknowledge and celebrate women who are members of our union in the Northwest Territories!

Starting today March 8th, 2022 and until March 31, 2022 you can nominate a woman who is a union member in Good Standing to win a $100 Gift Card. $2000 in prizes, in total, will be given out.

Nominations need to include the name, local, and location of the nominated person.

Please not that if you don't include the name, local and location of the person you are nominating, your nomination Will Not Be Accepted. Feel free to explain why you're nominating this person, but that is not necessary.

Nominations can be made on the PSAC NWT Regional Women’s Committee Facebook page, emailed to NTWomen@psac-afpc.com, or by calling Toll Free 1-800-661-0870.
