New UNW Headquarters

Feb. 15, 2016 - We have MOVED!

We are excited to announce that the UNW has completely moved into our new building as of February 15, 2016!  Our grand opening will be held sometime in the late summer, as there is still some landscaping and other cosmetic work that needs to be done.  Stay tuned!

Members are welcome ANY TIME during office hours to come and see their new union building.

You can find our offices on the 4th floor.  PSAC is fully moved into their offices on the 2nd floor, NTFL is fully moved into their offices on the main floor, and Stantec is fully moved into their offices on the 2nd/3rd floors.

Our Training Centre rooms are operational for UNW/PSAC/NTFL events and meetings.  If you would like to book a training room, contact the UNW receptionist.

History of the UNW Building

It has been ten years since finding a new home for the UNW was first discussed by the UNW Executive.  Do you want to know how it all began, and how we got to where we are today? Click UNW 53rd Street Building History to read all about it.

Construction is underway on the new home of the Union of Northern Workers

Located at 53rd Street next to Mildred Hall School, the new building overlooks Frame Lake, City Hall and the Legislative Assembly.

The 4-storey, 35,000 square foot office building is scheduled to open at the beginning of 2016. Construction began in July 2014.

The UNW is owner and developer. The new facility will house not only the UNW’s corporate offices. Co-location of the NWT offices of the Public Service Alliance Canada North and the Northern Territories Federation of Labour will gather these labour organizations under one roof.  Stantec Ltd. will be the major commercial tenant, occupying a full floor of the building.

The building was designed by Stantec Ltd.  Clark Builders is the construction contractor.

The UNW facilities will include Executive offices, board and meeting rooms, training facilities, as well as library, interview and full reception areas.  Announcements on the naming of the new building, and updates on construction, will be coming throughout 2015.

The Union of Northern Workers is proud of this new investment in our capital city.
