MEDIA RELEASE - GNWT Collective Bargaining

Collective Bargaining Commences

The Union of Northern Workers (UNW) and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) are jointly announcing that they have commenced negotiations towards a new collective agreement.

The UNW and the GNWT are optimistic that by working together in good faith, a fair and reasonable agreement will be reached that balances the interests of both parties.

Both parties have also agreed there will be no further public comment while negotiations are ongoing.

Quick Facts

The collective agreement between the UNW and the GNWT expired on March 31, 2021 and remains in force until a new collective agreement is reached.

The UNW served Notice to Bargain to the GNWT on November 26, 2020.

Formal negotiations between the UNW and GNWT began on April 12, 2021.
